This would be a good time to visit McAdenville (on I-85 between Charlotte and Gastonia). It's a cute little town that dresses up with lights and decorations during the Christmas season. It's free, but best to go during week nights. Gets crowded on weekends.

Concerts on the weekends at Birkdale too. Now you know why Markh like to takes his kids to the movies there.
Yes-- 2 Hours of uninterrupted drinking bliss. You can add another half hour if you throw in a few extra bucks for Goldstone Creamery.
Tickets to Discovery...Adults are almost $12. Kids & Senior citizens are almost $11. Not sure how much parking is tho.
