I love Johnny Burrito to bring back to my desk, but would never actually sit out in the hallway and eat there. If you get there around 11:00 you may be in line for 2 minutes, max. It's a shame you compared it to Taco Hell, because it's the best burrito joint in Charlotte, IMO.

For under $15 I'd recommend City Smoke, Carolina Ale House, Nefelies or Valhalla (in Brevard Ct), Panara, or maybe BlackFinn.

Did you eat there? Because the food is nothing like Taco Bell. Sit down and eat in the atrium upstairs.

Or not.

It might be a little bit out of the way, but there is American Roadside Burger at 440 South Church Street. They don't seem to get the super large lunch hour rush like other uptown restaurants. They do get busy though. Pita Pit is another one that I like on College Street at the Hearst Tower.

Several places in Latta Arcade.

The cheapest eats anywhere in uptown may be the pizza place way in the back of old Wach 1 (now has a BofA branch in the front of it). $5 for two slices and a drink.

I just had lunch today at BlackFinn - they have daily lunch specials for $7.99 and they're very good. Today's special was Shrimp Pesto Pasta and it was oh so yummy!!! They're located at the Epicentre which is on College between Trade and 4th St.

I like Newk's (not sure of spelling) on Tryon, west side of street, near 4th I believe. It is good and reasonable. There is also a buffet in the building that houses Fuel Pizza by the park by St, Peter's Church Church. I believe that it is a Brazilian Restaurant and features a buffet and three specialty meats daily for around $10. I haven't eaten there yet, but it is on my list. They had tikka marsala last Tuesday, not Brazilian, but it looked pretty authentic. And, Fuel Pizza is pretty good also.
