I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not there are financial analyst jobs in Charlotte. Also, would it be easy for someone who just graduated college to get a job in finance?

The job market in Charlotte is very tough in finance/banking. The only bright spot in this market is for mortgage underwriters. There is a lot of competition out there and there are a ton of MBAs all vying for the same job.

Good luck.

As someone who works in banking, I say choose elsewhere. Both of the major banks are still quietly laying off people. Very bleak atmosphere right now. Most of the higher-up executives have jumped ship and moved on to 'greener" pastures. And the ones that are still left there are just waiting for the right opportunity to come along so they can jump as well.

There is plenty options other than bofa like the other smaller and local banks. You can try credit unions Alley or Grant Thorton.
All the Fortune 500 companies have an accounting department.

Don't let the few are un happy here and unable to be satisfiied keep from achieving dream of living in Charlotte.

I was originally thinking about heading out to Phoenix, Arizona because I like Arizona very much. Everyone out there though is telling me that it would be extremely hard to get a job there and that if you live outside of Arizona that employers will not even consider hiring you...

Uh huh. Achieving the dream... that sounds nice.
But what about the people who are already established in Charlotte and NC?

I really don't get the enthusiasm of encouraging people from out of state to come here
and compete for jobs that people who are already here can and should be filling.

If when UE gets down to the 3-4% level we can explore that dream achieving idea again.

Dallas Texas or Houston might be better.

that's really not quite fair, Sunny. There are those of us that are actually IN the financial world of Charlotte and we see what is going on. I don't think that anyone is being intentionally dour. It would be very unfair of those of us that work in the industry not to say what is truly going on.

There really are MBAs that are working in menial jobs (for their degree). I work with many of them. They cannot get jobs that they are qualified for because of the intense competition. And, they are already employed with the bank. Heck, I cannot get a job as a paralegal because of similar competition in the legal field.

And, those Fortune 500 companies are employing equally under-employed accountants, CPAs, etc. I know of quite a few accountants that are working as mortgage underwriters right now. Nothing else is available.

Not being a smart-alec, just being truthful.

I don't know about Phoenix, but, I do know that there is a lot of energy around Austin, TX.

Actually, I do know about Phoenix now that you mention it...a friend just was hired there. She was hired from San Francisco, CA to work in Phoenix. So, if you get the right head hunter, you might be alright.
