Fortunately the MLS usually has interior pictures nowadays. You won't find much wood paneling from about 1985 to the present. A few cans of paint will cover it up anyway, if you do buy an older home.

$250K will be tight in SouthPark proper But I agree with the above, if you look in 28226 (south Charlotte inside I-485 loop, but not quite as far west as Pineville) you'll find some options. 28277 may also work if the seller is motivated.

Check the Olde Providence Neighborhood - great schools and you'll only be 12-15 minutes from work.

You might want to consider South Carolina (lower taxes, highly rated school system, gas is approximately .20-.25 less per gallon).

Look in the areas of Fort Mill, Tega Cay, and Lake Wylie. You should easily meet your housing criteria and the commute should be close to the 30 minute area.

Depending on whether the OP would make the decision to leave in a completely different state.

Beverly Crest may be a stretch given your budget. It's an awesome neighborhood with great schools, for sure. Beverly Woods, however, might fit your criteria and is adjacent to SouthPark. It's an older neighborhood but many of the homes have been completely renovated. Great schools.

Would it make a huge difference in terms of the neighborhood we could get into if we increase our budget to 350K for a home?

You could find something very nice for a lot less than that in Olde Providence.

Since you have a child.. look for good schools..I have seen parents struggling to get kids to private schools where schools are not good, but houses are cheap.

South charlotte is good for schools.
