And I agree this had more to do with Ghazi than Mez. On Mez's facebook their closing said to look for a new theater concept coming in February. So this wasn't as sudden as it sounds. Being that this is the closest movie theater to me where I enjoy a movie and a decent meal (turkey avacado burger for $7 vs popcorn/soda for $7 elsewhere) I've gone plenty of times to Mez and saw a wide consumer base including young families with middle school aged children coming in and out of theaters. So the apparent stigma of other establishments in Epicenter did not prevent a wide variety of people from going to see a movie there.
interesting... I see a few kids running around but not in numbers that suggests its a family oriented establishment. Most of the businesses are geared toward night life/drinking and it looks like a ghost town in the day time.

I don't see what was wrong with their current concept of no kids after 7pm. Maybe they can move it to later but I saw that as a plus.

Maybe skateboarding families living uptown complained.

I'm at Epicentre regularly (via the light rail) so I am quite familiar with how busy the place can be. I also know that the place could do MUCH better if we ever get that condo/apartment tower built. With our current economy, a hotel/apartment combo would probably be best.
An apartment/hotel complex would be good. Personally, Id like to see some type of solid retail component go in there like Denver Pavilions in Colorado where they have an H&M and Forever 21 Denver Pavilions | Home

In a perfect world Id love to see Charlotte have a downtown development like City Creek in downtown Salt Lake City. Its a mall size lifestyle center with a retractable roof!! Not likely to happen, but I do think its possible for the EpiCenter to get to the level of the retail found at Denver Pavilions.

obviously they feel something is wrong if they want to change the atmosphere or perception of the Epicenter as a night club.

Yes, perception is the issue. And if someone perceives the Epicenter as a night club then there's a problem.

Those seem like really nice areas, but you don't have to go that far from Charlotte to find a decent downtown entertainment complex. Louisville's 4th Street Live really reminds me of what Epicentre already is and could be in the near future.

IMO, Epicentre still feels like an unfinished product. I'd like to see the place at least 90% leased and a hotel/apartment building built on top of it. There is a rather large surface parking area between the Convention Center station and the Skye Condo/Hotel development. That surface lot would be a perfect spot for further retail growth of the Epicentre area.

I've been to Louisvilles 4th St. back in 2008.... nice place but I think they benefit because its more spread out. Epicenter is nice but the layout is a little funky.
