Well where can I start? I'm originally from CT, but I live in FL. I have always wanted to live in North Carolina, but I'm not really sure where to move too. I need to know where are some really good places to check out while I'm there. I'm hoping to move to NC in about a year or two, but not knowing the state I'm stumped on where to move to. I've heard that Concord and Charlotte are really great places to live, but I need more info on both places. Can anyone give me some insight on where to go? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
I would peruse these boards. Most of the info you will need is found on this forum. Do a search and hopefully you will find some good info. I bet all your questions have already been answered on here. Please let us know if you want more specifics. We are all very helpful on here!!

Relocation
There are so many areas in Charlotte, but I personally like Union County b/c of it's rural feel and close proximity to Charlotte. Do you have Schools to consider? Union County schools are on top according to Excellence etc. If that is not a major concern then there are other great areas here. Look at some of the other threads re: relocating. Also if you could give some more criteria-ie: want to be in city or rural, family, price points etc. Since you are new you can click on username to get more information on reponders to your post

Rosie
Rosie, much depends on how much you can spend and where you think you will get a job. For instance, banking is big business in the Charlotte area, whereas tech and IT jobs are more plentiful in the Raleigh area. There are nice things about all our bigger cities, so job opportunities should be your first concern. Can you tell us what kind of job you would be looking for?
Sorry, I guess that was taken as a solicitation. Here's my point without my line of work nor my contact info...
I agree with Belmarin. I have lived in Waxhaw (Union county) for 4 years. I plan to build my next personal home in York County (Fort Mill/Lake Wylie area to be specific) for these reasons: 1. Schools are excellent 2. Taxes are definitely lower 3. One of the strongest real-estate markets in Greater Charlotte area. 4. Easy access to Charlotte (10-15 min. drive) 5. Union County has grown too quickly. It's infrastructure is overburdened. There has been (maybe released by now) a hold on new building permits needing sewer due to insufficient sewer facilities. Taxes must go up to keep up with the growth and many of the more desireable schools have become overcrowded.
I do love Waxhaw, but it's a tough commute with Rt. 16 (major route to Charlotte) remaining at only 2 lanes and backed up every morning and evening. There are other routes, but not as direct.
