Anyone have retina detachment surgery here? Looking for suggestions on doctors, where to go for a second opinion. Thinking about traveling outside the area for a second opinion. Feel free to private message me.

No personal experience but have heard great things about CEENTA (Charlotte Eye Ear Nose Throat) in terms of eye doctors. We have used the allergists/ENT specialists there.

You will definitely need a laser specialist - and besides that, perhaps they will also hit your eye with a bubble. Very uncomfortable - both the treatment and recovery, but it's certainly worth your sight. If you do have a tear in the retina or a detachment, time is of the essence. Don't wait around - it's not going to go away. And it could detach completely and then there's nothing anyone can do. So get moving and bulldoze your way into an eye treatment center pronto.

My neighbor works at the office of Dr Donald Renaldo - Carolina Retina & Vitreous. From what I understand, he is one of the best. I have no personal experience at his office, but I have met him and many on his staff and have heard stories from my neighbor.

Andrea is right on the money with time being of the essence.....see a specialist IMMEDIATELY! I had a nearly complete detachment about 7 years ago. Dr. Weidman (Our Doctors: Frederick H. D. Weidman, III, MD | Horizon Eye Care) reattached my retina and my sight was totally restored. At that time I was told that the condition needed to be treated within 5-7 days or it could be permanent. Dr. Weidman used "the bubble" freezing and laser, quite a process, but in my case, very successful. Best of luck to you.

I don't know of anyone but I will keep an eye out for you (sorry I could not resist that one). Best of luck with your surgery and recovery!

Thank you for all the replies! I had retina detachment surgery last October. It was a bad detachment but my surgery went well- (scleral buckle). I was 20/20 vision before, but now cannot read the eye chart at all. However, with lenses I can get to almost 20/30. I found out the other eye has issues too. So, since I am new to the area I am looking for all the info I can get in case I need/want a second opinion.
