Default Unionville

Anyone wish to share thoughts about how a transplant might feel in Unionville? Any thoughts on the schools?

We're back out to NC over the next few days, hoping to find another home.

Still looking at homes in Monroe, but there are a few in Unionville that interest us also. Please PM me if you don't wish to post publicly.

If we strike out all the way around, we might begin looking in Cabarrus County.

Thanks!

SL

Saralee...when we were looking to move here we checked out Unionville as well. I drove through there yesterday on my way to a friends. It seems to be a very nice community.

I also looked at greatschools.net and to me it looks like the schools there are good as well. I do not know anyone that has children enrolled in the schools to give you first hand info though. Best of luck to you in your search.

Where are you moving from. I have had children in CMS schools and have a grand child in Indian Trail Sardis Elem. to be exact. Excellent school, Unionville is where we are moving to and it looks great. I would say it is small and elete. Knowing what I know, Sardis or Unionville is the closest I would venture to Charlotte, Yes it is UP TOWN. I think your ride would be more pleasant if you look into Indian Trail Sardis Elementary. If yo want to buy a home at $150,000.00 just a half a mile from Sardis Elementary, well built, nice landscaping and great neighborhood on two dead ends, let me know. My son is selling by owner soon. He is a plumber, and has put alot of time and love into his home and yard. The streets are both dead ends and have only one in and out. Only one teen in the two blocks, very crime free and pretty.
Bus stops at end of street. I would stay away from Charlotte schools, very poor education and if you have a child with special needs, CMS in NOT The way to go.
Weddington I hear has good schools.
Monroe, City of monroe is very high drugs and crime. Stay on the right side of hwy 74 out of Charlotte, going to Indian Trail and out that way. The oppsite side of 74 and monore it self is high crime and drugs. Weddington is getting bad too, but is still better than Monore. Union ville is quite and I would go there if I was young and had the money and did not mind a 90 minute commuite to Charlotte, But indian trail would be the best bet. More people less travel

I think I lost my post but if this is posted twice I am sorry.
I have lived in the area for 25 years raised two boys and now one grandchild. CMS schools are horrible, Monroe city schools are horrible.
Sardis Elementary is 'wonderful". My grand son attends that school. THe area is revamping the grid for Jr and High School. porterridge has, high, jr and grammar sschool all in one block. Novel idea really.
Indian Trail is great. Monroe city schools and the monroe area is high crime and drugs.
A lot of poverty. I currently moved to the area after being away eight years and the crime is very high now.
My grandson attends Sardi Rd elementary and my son loves it.
Your commuite would not be as bad. Coming out of Charlotte, stay on the left side of hwy 74, hemby bridge, indian trail, Unionville. But Unionville communte to Charlotte will be atleast 90 minutes and worse if the traffic is bad Friday traffic to charlotte is tough. Leave 20 minutes early to beat it. Use monroe, and Idlewild as alternates.
Stay away from Charlotte schools.
Weddington is good, over crowded and mostly from Long island ny now. LOve those NYersl
To me Unionville is the deal. I am actually moving there soon. I checked out the elementary and it looks small but elite.God Bless

Rosepetals, you're new around here - so welcome to the board.

You should know though that whenever someone gives such biased one-sided opinions on something, as you have done now in 3 posts about the schools, you lose credibility with others here. Basically, people will just see you as someone with an ax to grind, not as someone sharing valid, useful information.

For instance, Charlotte actually has many fine schools - high scoring, award-winning, successful schools. You may have not had the good fortune of having your children in one of them, but they do exist. Go ahead and report on your particular experience, (that might actually help someone reading) but trying to say all schools are bad based on your experience won't really fly with readers here I'm afraid.

Sticking with the post... Unionville is a fantastic area. The schools are amazing. Unionville Elem has a great reputation and the kids move to the Piedmont (M and H) schools. Piedmont is a very well established and proud school with strong alumni support. The community is a very tight/close group. There is not any reason why you should not look at this community. If my wife did not work so far into Charlotte, this would be the area for me and I am a native of Union County. Good luck!

Unionville is a great community. The schools are fantastic. The area is growing. but it doesn't have the issues that many other areas in Union County has. I would have moved there myself, but the wifey wanted to be closer to the STORES! Ah.

The annual Unionville BBQ is a great example of how a community comes together and supports the school. It is one of, if not the biggest school BBQ in the state...and all because the parents and people in the community work hard to make it a great success.

My daughter has been at Unionville Elementary for three years. The school is incredible and she has had much success. Also the commute to Charlotte wouldn't be close to 90 minutes. I work in South Charlotte near the Arboretum and it takes me about 30 minutes. Unionville is a great little community.

Unionville is a good place to live. Anyways, take rosepetals777 post with a grain of salt. As a former Monroe High School/Monroe Middle School/Walter Bickett Elementry School student I can say that most of what they say about the schools in Monroe are bull. Monroe High School has less than 1,000 students and is a tight community and as long as you don't seek drugs or violence you'll never encounter either. If you want drugs go to Weddington High School, trust me they can afford the drugs.

Also, I went to the old elementary school but my younger sister went to the new Walter Bickett Elementary School. The new Walter Bickett is a fantastic school and is located in a new development so it's not located anywhere bad. I can't speak for Benton Heights Elementary School.

If you want a non-traditional high school that focuses on college credit courses then Monroe also has Central Academy of Technology & Arts. They don't have a senior class yet. It's that new, replaces the old career center.

Central Academy of Technology and Arts

To add to Sweetwater's... Benton Heights is a great school with diversity. You will find the most innovative teaching going on at BH, Walter Bickett and the other "city schools" because of the funds these schools have to employ literacy specialists.
