Hope you get your speed issue fixed. I have the benefit of an HOA member Facebook page so it's easy to get feedback that is very local. There were issues with UVerse, AT&T DSL and TW last week with UVerse outages being the worse. That wasn't a speed issue though.

Indeed, you are correct. It is a router. I just bought into the trade terminology, i.e., "gateway" or "modem". I think I have a modem gathering dust in my stash somewhere in the house.
After all is said and done and on my own, I moved my wireless adapter from one USB port to another and bingo, the speed went back to what it should be or close to the 12Mbps. Sometimes it is a matter of trial and error when all else fails. I'll be letter ATT know my solution when they call back today for the follow up on the new router.
