I really like this idea. I would love to see the integral stadium structure preserved in some form or another. We lost Crockett Park in Dilworth after the big fire in the 80's so it would be nice to save this stadium even if it is reconfigured into a short track raceway. With Carowinds just down the road, this area could become a nice segment for family entertainment. Let me be the first to say WE DON'T NEED MORE SHOPPING MALLS! It also sounds as if the Catawba Indians could build a casino on the land. Not sure i like that idea but I would be more opposed to a shopping center or truck stop.
I went to a few dirt track races as a kid and it was great affordable fun. I hope they can get a track even if its not on dirt. I hate to say it but Bruton Smith may not like it. He wants to get his share of any racing going on within a hundred miles of Charlotte it seems. Just think people from charlotte area could actually see some real racing without Bruton Smith having to have his hand in the cash drawer.....I can think of nothing that would draw the crowds like some good ole friday night racin.
Statesville or Moorseville or somewhere had an awesome stock car track. I think it used to be a NASCAR track.
My uncle races stock cars in Ohio (Shady Bowl) and came down to race at this track. I can't believe I don't remember the town, but I'm sure someone on here knows what I'm talking about.
Sadly, as with major league baseball, a lot of automotive past times are no longer practical, as things got so expensive.
Hopefully they'll keep the costs down.
Stock car racing is still popular, Bowman Gray Racing in Winston Salem is packed every week. The admission for adults is only 10 and 6 for kids. Official Site of Bowman Gray Racing - Schedule
I was hoping for a dirt track, like the old Starlight Speedway in Monroe, NC.
There is one of these in the area off Hwy 521 South in SC just before you get to Lancaster. (South of Indian Land) Interestingly they say they were once associated with the Starlight Speedway.
