There is a possibility that my family will be moving from the southern area of Charlotte to the University area. We frequent the McAlpine (Balantyne area) and Little Sugar Creek (midtown) greenways and love them. Has anyone on here been on the Mallard Creek or Clark's Creek greenway trails? Are they nice? Safe? etc.. I honestly haven't been up that way except for the occasional trip to Ikea. I do plan on getting up there this week to check it out though.
These greenways are very nice - I occasionally drive up there from South Charlotte to go biking there. It's better than McAlpine because it's mostly paved and longer than Four Mile Creek Greenway in Ballantyne. I've often thought it would be nice to live on this trail. It even traverses the UNCC campus.

There are many parts of Clark's Creek Greenway that looks and feels as though you are deep into "the country". IMO, that's what is so great about that particular greenway. The last time I was on it (bike riding) I saw a rather large turtle (about the size of a small house cat) and a few rabbits. The greenway also goes near the backyards of some homes, but the nature-like feel to the area is decent even with the nearby developments.
I used to live on the intersection of both greenways - they are really lovely, clean, and feel very safe. There are a couple of parts where, despite being near to a lot of housing developments and some main highways, they feel really remote - if you feel skittish about that, make sure to take a friend with you. It also gets really dark at night (I know most greenways do, but these feel particularly dark!), so be aware of that. In short, it's a scenic greenway with a few bridges, hills, and a running creek - often overlooked in CLT, but it's a really nice spot! Enjoy!
