In Charlotte Transplants from Frederick, MD?
Sorry, title should say ANY Charlotte Transplants...
I've been doing some research on Frederick, MD, and it seems like a very nice town. I may have a job opp. at Ft. Detrick, so I'm doing some preliminary recon.
I've interviewed in Edgewood before, and know that I do not like that area. I guess Charlotte has really spoiled me. Having said that, it seems we may be happy in Frederick as it seems to be a family friendly quaint town that offers shopping, entertainment, good eats, and recreation. Sounds a little like Huntersville/Cornelius/Davidson to me.
I'll be posting a similar thread in the Maryland forum, but just wanted to try my luck here too.
So, what say you about Frederick and how it might compare to the suburb towns of Charlotte?
Thanks!

Was Frederick now Charlotte
I worked in Frederick and it is a very nice town. There is lots to do and it is growing as people who work in the DC area find it a little less expensive and are willing to comprimise on the commute (it is hell to commute into DC from there - Sound familiar??). It has a very nice old town section with lots of shops, etc. Nice restaurants too.
You will find it a little more expensive to live there, but really only in the terms of housing. I do not know what you own now, but a nice single family home, in a middle class community, is about twice what it is down here. Otherwise, tax base is about the same.

Great, thanks for the reply! Is there a train from Frederick to DC, or one that is worth the ride for commuting?
We will likely rent initially so we can get a feel for the best place for us. With increase in salaries, we will likely be able to afford rent for under $2000. I've done some research and it looks like you can find some very nice areas for this price range. What do you know about Lake Linganore in New Market? Seems like a pretty active and nice community.
Thanks again!

I sold homes in Frederick for a few years back in 1990-92. Things were just getting started. Went back a year or so ago and couldn't believe the growth. My husband worked there untill we moved here back in August. So.... Check out the community of "Taskers Chance" It is right off Rt. 40 & 15 along "The Golden Mile" Convenient commute, lots of shopping and dining. You can probably rent a townhome or condo in your price range. "Spring Ridge" is another nice community but a lil farther from Fort D. Whittier(sp?) is close to you too and another nice one built by Auscherman Homes. They are/were a family owned, local, very good, builder.Good luck. Let me know if I can help more.

OOOPS, I didn't answer your question.... Only thing I know about Lake Linganore is that they had a lot of water problems. When I was there they had real problems w/ county as the roads were built too narrow for safe passage of fire equiptment. Same w/ trash trucks so the county would not provide trash removal even though they paid for it in thier taxes. New market is farther from you, but you will be going against traffic very nice. Very quaint w/ lots of antique shopping. Check out Mealy's restraunt. You wont be sorry..........

Oh good, thanks for the helpful information! Commutes are not a big deal to me. Ideally, we'd like to stay under 45 minutes from work. She is speech pathologist and can work anywhere.
