We are relocating to Charlotte and found a rental house in Plaza Midwood. This will be our first rental in 35 years so all new to us. Can anyone tell me if this is a safe neighborhood? We really like the feel of an older bungalow type home since that is what we are leaving behind. Thanks for any input.

Depends on which part of Plaza Midwood - it is largely safe, although there can be crime in certain areas. There are a lot of bars and restaurants in the main drag (which is a good thing!) but that can bring some crime at times. You can find bungalow types of rentals throughout Charlotte, but Plaza Midwood is likely cheaper because it is traditionally a rougher area than, say, Dilworth or South CLT or Myers Park. Don't let that scare you away - just be aware of which part of PM you'll be living in and check it out.

Everyone I've known who has lived in Plaza Midwood has experienced at least one break-in. Some more than one. The problem is worse on the Belmont side (west side) of The Plaza. Most of it is harmless. i.e. People breaking in to grab something to hock for drug money. They are not looking to hurt anyone.

If you are looking for a bungalow, you might want to consider Elizabeth or Dilworth.

I owned a home in P/M from 1988-2009, If I ever moved back to CLT, P/M would be my 1st choice of neighborhoods to live in.

Plaza Midwood is an amazing neighborhood. I don't think the break in comments above are accurate and represent everyone. If you share what street it is on ill tell you about it..
