Best advice we can give you is to get a job FIRST, and then based on where that job is, decide on a place to live. Don't know what field you're in, but jobs really are not plentiful here AT ALL. The Charlotte metro areas unemployment rate is several points higher than Cleveland - so good luck.

Concord High School is where your child would most likely go if you lived there. Football is REALLY big there.

As a nurse you stand the most chance of finding something, but even our medical community here has not been immune to the recession. Here is a list of the schools in all of Cabarrus County (where Concord is):

Concord Schools also include Central Cabarrus (older school), JM Robinson (fairly new) and Hickory Ridge is very new. There are 7 HS, then 2 alternative type high schools. See

Use mapquest and you will be able to see where in Charlotte this is. It is nowhere near UNCC, I85 or hwy 29. It is in south Charlotte. And even though south Charlotte is VERY desirable for neighohoods and schools this complex takes section 8 and has had some issues, I would not recommend it.

Again, until you get a job it will be hard to zero in on a location to live I'm afraid.

Are you on Section 8? If you aren't, you don't want to live there, period.

As for nursing jobs, you will most likely find one, but please understand that the pay may not be what you are used to . . . and nursing jobs are VERY competitive here. We have what - four or five nursing schools here and I recently talked to a recruiter who said they were flooded w/ applications - unlike in years past.

If you decide what hospital, nursing home or physician practice you would like to work for, try contacting the nurse recruiters at the facilities themselves, rather than relying on web ads. A lot of these companies fake ads just to get hits, and I am not kidding.

My neighborhood is right next to that plant & I've never smelled it. Now the one at Park & Tyvola is especially aromatic on a hot summer's day. But the point is moot since the OP won't be near either one.
