TKITNC is on a distinguished road
My impression is that it is very safe. I am sure the chance of crime increases as you get closer to CLT 'proper.' I live near Matthews and really enjoy the town. I am sure there are some streets you may want to avoid! The town has everything you could possibly want. I would move there in a heartbeat..

Matthews is a pretty safe place. And since it borders south/southeast Charlotte and Mint Hill you don't have much to worry about. Of course we all know crime can happen anywhere these days so I am not saying south Charlotte is crime-free, BUT, doing all the normal precautionary things you should be just fine (don't go to the ATM at midnight, don't go shopping at WalMart a 2 a.m., don't leave your garage door up all night, don't leave valuables visible inside your car - the normal stuff).
