Default preschools in South Charlotte?

Our family is moving to Charlotte (near the Arboretum) this winter, and I am in need of a great half-day preschool for my son. We're not religious, but we'll consider church programs. I know arriving mid-year is tough, so I need advice! Thanks!

Try Good Shepherd on Rea Road. They're one of the least expensive we could find but come highly recommended by friends.

My 3 kids all went to the preschool at Sharon United Methodist Church (also known as the "ski slope church across from SouthPark Mall" :-) My children thrived there and went on to elementary school well-prepared. The director, Sally Swanson is knowledgable, kind and capable and leads an excellent staff of teachers. The curriculum is secular and play-based, following the guidelines of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. It is a smaller preschool with a small teacher-student ratio, so the kids get a lot of personal attention. The phone number is 704-366-9166. Call between 9 and 1:30 and ask for Sally Swanson.

You might want to look into this one. I'm not sure what their current policy is on half-day students. We also have several Montessori schools in Charlotte. Our family loved their methods.

Open Door School
Open Door School is a non-profit, non-sectarian preschool, and the first program in Charlotte-Mecklenburg to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our full-day program has a 5-Star Rating from the North Carolina Division of Child Development.

Default Thanks for the ideas! Any more?

I'm looking into these options and some others now. It's hard not being in town yet. Any other ideas for good (and not too religious) preschools in South Charlotte near the Arboretum would be welcomed!

Wee School at Carmel Baptist is great.

I think you may have some trouble getting into anything this late in the year though. I know Carmel was filled for Aug enrollment last Feb. and people camp out overnight to get their kids in.

We love Charlotte Jewish Preschool, which is less than a 10 minute drive from The Arboretum.

Great suggestion, Dawn! Wee School is a wonderful place. The teachers are warm and loving and now that they've expanded the school-it's gorgeous. It is tough to get a spot, though.
