Hi there. We moved from Anthem, AZ (north of Phx on the 17) about a year and a half ago and we love it here. I was never too keen on AZ (we relocated from San Diego) and we lived there for almost 3 years. I'll take the summers out here (humidity and all) any day over Arizona.

It's beautiful out here, it's green (but we are in a drought so our lawns are browning), the traffic is nothing compared to Phoenix (i.e. the 17 and 101, to name a few), and you can't beat the housing prices.

Some things I find odd though: I still can't get used to NO privacy in the back yard (we put up a split rail fence for our dog and it's weird that everyone can just look in - but it's weirder when people have no fences I think), grocery prices seem higher (especially produce), the streets change names constantly so it's confusing when you're new.

It's a very family friendly area. I didn't get that feeling at all from Phoenix. I met some great friends there, but Charlotte is different. Now, I'm giving the perspective of a married/family person. I don't know how it is from a single life or anything.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

My wife and I live out in AZ right now and are thinking about moving to Charlotte. we dont know much about it, other then what we are reading. We hear great things about Charlotte. If we are looking for a family friendly location, that is very safe, affordable and a descent commute to town where would that be. we would like to look at some houses but dont know where to look. thanks.

You have a good amount of options.

In addition, you can narrow down a lot by researching schools and searching around on here for previous posts.

Thanks to all of you for your response, even the rather strange one! Nice to hear from other Zonies and get your comparisons. I am originally from No. Ca., Ive been here 6 years….about 5 too long. I really long for greenery again, really enjoy cacti but roses would be so nice. I long for a flower garden again. Other reasons I am considering Charlotte, a decent theater/music scene. I enjoy the occasional play or symphony and I a good music scene. I’m not concerned with the club scene, I turn 46 this month so my clubbing days are sooo over, but of course I still like nice venues. Restaurants (good ones) and variety also important. Character, is very important. I lived in San Francisco & San Diego and I enjoy distinct districts, historic/artsy/new age/modern etc. Here we don’t seem to have any of that, all is the same no personality. Also, I love to walk and Scottsdale isn’t made for walking/strolling. Economy seems to be strong and housing still affordable, traffic really not a huge concern for me ( I lived in SF & SD, need I say more). Anyway based on what I’ve read so far, Charlotte seems like a nice fit. Thanks all for your comments, even the strange negative one.
