Aflac is a great opportunity, but you have to be able to do it. I started with no exp in sales, but was desperate and business-savvy. I'm making it good, and haven't spent anything except initial gas money and $85 for the test and coursework to get my license. :0). IT's easy to sell, not hard to convince employers esepcialy since it's free to them to offer, and they get tax breaks on it. I just started in MD over a month ago and was smart enoguh to look for people to help me, working with people who were better, and am doing good.

I don't know about Aflac. They "hire" (for lack of a better word) anyone who walks in the door and pays their initial costs. Then you go out and cold call the same accounts the previous, wide-eyed Aflac rep's have called on over and over again. I went to the initial meeting, heard the "pitch" and never went back. The branch manager kept calling me for weeks, but I had no interest in that kind of operation.

The CRITICAL Laptop Question...

Ok...Let me please help all of you out with this whole "laptop dillema". To answer the question is...read on...
...understand this, friends, you are opening your own business. This, without all the administrative, legal, marketing, overhead, etc...costs with any other business venture. You see, the marketing is already done for you. And done well, if I may add.
You do not have to pay for office space, unless, like one said, you wanted to. But - and a big one - you must achieve a certain status, first. Integrity is preached HARD! But you must be decent at what you do, and able to train others to do what you have done.
When you join on, your District Manager - you will pay for office space, normally with this position) will take care of you. Your licensing MUST be done first. Your insurance agents for heavens sake! You pay for that. It will cost you between $120 to $400 depending on your state; talk to them.
Now...sigh...about the insanely expensive laptop. Listen everyone...You are supplied with PROPRIETARY COMPANY INFORMATION! Hello? They are normal laptops, with a great amount of memory. However, other than being nice, AFLAC must be able to guarantee very stringent safeguards when 23,000 agents have 40,000 laptops flying around all over the globe. So, b/c of that, THEY install certain software...EXPENSIVE...software to insure THEIR integrity to their, some 40 million, clients all over the world. Understood?
If you want a GREAT career, and you like being on your own and talking to lots of people, then you will be great, and make a great income. But...YOU must work for it. Not anyone else. If you don't commit to it, then you will not make it. Commit 3 years, and see where it takes you. You wouldn't go wrong with such a great company.
Thanks,
Mook

First of all, thanks to all who posted and added to my understanding of Aflac's business model.
Specific question. If you're an Aflac agent, what are the objections you hear on a regular basis.
Thanks in advance for the help and insights.

That's higher than Einsteins IQ was believed to be. Congrats!
