I predict we will continue to see more of this if the Charlotte/Mecklenburg government continues with taxation policies that serve to drive the middle class out of the city.

This has been going on. Union county is most notable with $750k to $5m + homes. The ones with $$$$
and common sense don't live in Mecklenburg any longer. Charlotte will become the next Cleveland or
Detroit - trust me.

If I didn't HAVE to live so close to my job, I would be out of here!

you wish...

only a looser would suggest such a thing.

Eventually these surrounding counties will raise taxes due to the migration and things will balance out.

Detroit or Cleveland... lol.

Oh, please. Believe it or not, there are people who would rather pay slightly higher taxes and not have to drive 45 minutes to get everywhere.

This is not a new phenomenon and has nothing in common with what is happening in Cleveland or Detroit (that's a silly comparison). I believe there will always be a place for the good areas of Meck - the prime South Charlotte areas will continue to be in demand. It's deceiving to attribute the migration entirely to "high taxes" when I know many folks choose not to live in certain areas of Meck due to the schools. Union is not as cheap tax wise as some make it out to be...

You are correct on this point. I am leaving Meck for Union for the schools. They are priority #1 to my family. I wouldn't mind paying twice Charlotte's current tax rate if it meant a great school district. My property taxes ARE much cheaper by $2100/yr with this move but that's a bonus.
