What are the safest neighborhoods in charlotte for a single female who will be living alone? I am interested in a 2 bedroom house or condo. Can't afford more than around 750-850 in rent.

That's a tough one. Especially since the going rate for a ONE bedroom in safer areas are going for $800-$900 a month. For a 2 bedroom in your range, the safest area may be lie more on the outskirts of the city. Rates for apts are climbing like crazy right now.

Agree with Swampfoxer. I'd say the further out from Uptown (around the edges of the city near its surrounding towns) will be your best bet in this price range. I lived in the Mallard Creek area - had a one-br for 642 in a safe neighborhood. It wasn't exactly close to the fun spots of the city, but it was a great spot to call home. There are surely places like that all around the perimeter of CLT and would fit your budget as well.

Thank you, my move is still about a year or so out. I am just trying to find where I want to go. I really like Barrington Place Apartments. I am going to talk to a friend of mine at CMPD about the areas crime rate, etc. It is $735 for a one bedroom which is perfect. Thanks for the advice. I am still looking. I just dont want to wait till the last minute to find a place.

You should be OK there. This complex, in close proximity to UNCC, will probably have lots of students, which typically equates to more noise and parties than the usual complex. Do check the crime stats there. I know there have been problems in the past with apts near UNCC with car break-ins, a few robberies, etc. I don't know if this is a gated community or not but, IMO, those only offer a false sense of security. Good luck to you.

Try this website if you're interested in finding out about crime in an area SpotCrime Crime Map

You can even get more specific by entering an address and things in close proximity to that will show up. And if you see a crime - click it and it will give you more specifics.

edit - spotcrime for the address at Barrington Place http://spotcrime.com/#2410%20Allerton%20Way%2C%20Charlotte%2C%20NC%2028 213
