My wife and I are considering moving there. She is a stay at home mom (we have 5yo and a 6 month old). I work virtually and travel quite a bit, so the easy of CLT airport is outstanding.

Parameters for our move:

Top public schools
Max purchase price of 450, looking into 350s as well as the cost of homes are so different from here.
Planned community with amenities (pool, love it to have a gym as well, but not necessary)
Access to quality shopping (ie. not have food lion or some low end grocery be my go-to)
30 minutes to airport at non-traffic times (usually on 5am flights)

What we found so far...

Baxter Village, love it, but also would consider community with more lot space (not a lot more, but, like.. more)

MillBridge, concerned about every review I read and noise and water treatment plant, also seems to be the furthest out we could go, else seems outstanding and 450 buys you whatever you want

Palisades, wasn't into the quality of construction for our price range, though the top end stuff looks outstanding

Any help?

Millbridge is way outside 30 minutes to the airport.

Sounds like your looking for a track home developed neighborhood. They are everywhere in Charlotte. Every corner of Charlotte has those community neighborhoods with the community pool house.

Check out Concord. Skybrook,Winding Walk,High l and Creek and Christenbury. Cabarrus County schools and you can reach the airport in 25-30 minutes in non peak times. Also, there's Cannon Crossing as well.

If you are interested in Union County at all, I'd look at the neighborhoods closer to the northern end of the county. Millbridge is more than a 30 minute commute to the airport like a PP said, but Hunter Oaks and Somerset are two examples of neighborhoods that are much closer to 485, in your price range, and are in good school districts. There are definitely other great places to look too, but I only know about UC, so I can't comment on anything else. Good luck with your search!
