A first date at Nothin' but Noodles would be a last date for me. Doesn't have to be an expensive restaurant by any means (I'd be uncomfortable if it was) but that's practically fast food. But I do like your first 4 suggestions CG.

I agree with the places on elizabeth - the area has a nice vibe. Cuisine Malaya is excellent is you like Asian food, but it can be a bit empty for dinner on some nights - or maybe I've just gone there on weeknights. I can't remember.

You didn't say where you live, but the Firewater restaurant is a very nice upscale restaurant at University Place. Afterwards, you could walk around the lake and ride the pedal boats or go over to the wine vault and watch all the interesting people.

Or - go to NoDa - Cabo Fish Taco - good, casual food - At times the service can be slow, but more time to sip wine/margaritas and talk. Then you could head over to Evening muse for some music or browse the galleries a little and stop by Amelie's for some dessert and coffee - much more" texture" than Ballantyne!!

It's driving me crazy that I can't think of the name, but there's a locally owned restaurant on Providence Road, right past the Providence/Queens intersection near the Manor Theater. It's romantic, well-lit, fancy without being outrageously expensive, and has a lot of character. The food is fantastic.

If anyone recognizes what I'm talking about (I believe the restaurant is in what was once a house), let me know. It would be a fantastic option for the OP!

Are you thinking of Providence Cafe? It's now called Napa? I haven't been to it yet but the setting is lovely.

I think I might be - thanks. I went about a year ago - it might have still been PC then - if new management hasn't changed much, it's a fantastic spot for a first date.
