I used to do the DC to New York route on the train all the time and it was so much better than driving or flying. That distance is about 230 miles, so pretty similar to Atl-Charlotte.
This would do wonders for both cities IMO.

Hello QC!
I'm chiming in here on the affirmative from the ATL.
We are in the throes of finally getting somewhere in serious discussion & early planning on a multi-modal type of transit station for our city center.
Is the present Amtrak facility in Charlotte an appropriate facility for the present &/or future needs? I rode the rails up to there once over 30 years ago & it was it at night so I don't recall the station at all.

A multi-model transit station is in the works for Charlotte. It should hopefully be completed by the end of this decade:

Gateway Station

Anyway to fast track this so that it is done by June 22? I would rather take the train than drive to Atlanta on that date! :P

Actually its just an extension of the High Speed Rail Corridor which links DC with Charlotte. The extension will be a good economic investment.

The Amtrak station here isn't appropriate for anything, really. But our light rail extension is being run through the same area and that area will be shiny and new by the time this ATL-CLT line is running.

Amtrak will have hopefully moved to the Gateway Station planned along W Trade St in Third Ward by that time. The project has been awarded to a firm in Houston (Hines) but that's about as much as I've heard.

Here's the info on the station. The rendering is outdated and Hines hasn't released anything new so don't take that as literal.

Gateway Station
