I'm thinking of moving to North Carolina - maybe Charlotte.
What is the Jewish community like there?
Is there one?

I am Jewish as well. The center of Jewish life here is at Shalom Park, which is set up like a campus and is absolutely gorgeous. It houses the reformed and conservative temples, the JCC, the Jewish Day School, the Charlotte Jewish Preschool and the religious schools for both temples. The website for the JCC is:

http://www.jcccharlotte.org

We live in Union county, about a 20 minute drive to Shalom Park -- we are up there several times a week for religious school and sports activities for my kids.

Though the Jewish community is much smaller in number than what I was used to up north, I feel as if it is a much tighter community -- perhaps because it is smaller, or maybe because there is a real "center" for Jewish life. We love it, and even though my kids are a minority they are proud of their Jewish heritage. My parents moved here soon after we did in 1998 and are also active in the Temple.

I would be happy to help you in your relocation or if you need any additional information -- just PM me

I am interested in getting information on North Carolina. I am currently living in both NY and Fl. but would like to move from Fl. to North Carolina in the winter. I am Jewish and I would like a mixed area. I would also like a 55 and over active community. I was told about Park Shalom, but would also be interested in surrounding areas. Please advise. My email is mswerthit@aol.com. Thank you.

What more do you need to know? South.Charlotte&Union answered the question pretty well above your posts??

You will NOT be the only Jews, there are plenty of Jewish families around. Though of course, you will still be in a minority. The JCC here is VERY popular.
