Hi Theresa Your best bet would be to pursue jobs first. Then once you know where you might be working it is easier to choose an area to live in. In Charlotte your life will be a lot less stressful if you can try to live either on the side of town you work on, or as near to work as possible. There are so many nice areas it would be really hard to tell you exactly where to look unless you give us a price range you plan to buy in okay?

We ar ealso from CT. We moved here 2 years ago. I would suggest looking into employment in Charlotte, but choosing to reside in a town just outside of the city. There are many wonderful areas just around Charlotte with great schools. A few towns that come to mind are Matthews, Stallings, Mint Hill, Indian Trail, Waxhaw, and Weddington. These are all on the SSE side of the city. I do not know much about north of the city, but many members here have a lot of great thing to say about it. Best of luck to you in your search. It will be a great move you and your family from Bridgeport!

Some of the nicest areas around Charlotte are found south around South Park, Ballantyne, Blakeney, and east toward Matthews. I suggest you spend time online, you can use my website found under my profile, and look at homes that are currently on the market. That will give you a feel for what you can expect to find when you're ready to move. If you need more details send me an e-mail and I'll give you all the info you need. For jobs check monster.com, hotjobs.com, charlottejobs.com. Wachovia and Bank of America are major employers in Charlotte, you might also go to their sites. Good luck. If I can help further just let me know.

kd83, I truly think you will enjoy your move to this area. It is wonderful place with lots to see and do. Please feel free to ask any questions you have here. Everyone in the NC forum is very nice and always looking to help you get the answers to your questions.

And to add to the previous post...when looking for jobs, my hubby had the best luck with careerbuilder.com and through the Charlotte Observer.

I can recommend a great mover if you need one from CT.

Well I agree you should look for the job first but I'd try as someone else suggested to look in the southern part of Charlotte. Not sure about Union County, I'd give Fort Mill, SC a shot if I was you.
BTW I live here in Jersey (Bedminster) and work for Wachovia in Morristown and Elizabeth doing mortgages. You will be happier in NC. Fort Mill is just south of Charlotte only minutes away from coveted Ballantyne.

When you look for a job try not too go too far north, traffic is hell.

Red face don't forget to look North

we moved to the area 5 years ago, and picked to live North of Charlotte in a town called Mooresville. The taxes are lower here in Iredell county. I love the schools, especially the elementary, high level of parent involvment. There are some great neighborhoods, some can get expensive. I would be happy to point out one that fits your price range. Cons are the city is really booming, lots of new construction and infastructure hasn't quite caught up. Moving here from South Florida, I didn't find it horrible, and also the friendly people and great schools make up for it. Hope it helps. By the way we are considering a move to connecticut and are having a really hard time finding a place to compare to here. My husband commutes to white plains and we want to stay stay closer to Danbury. We are told traffic along 95 is a nightmare.
