Union County Residents....a question....
For those of you who live in the Union County area.....what's the difference between Waxhaw/Weddington and the Indian Trail area....We've visited 2 times this past spring/summer and both times looked only in the Waxhaw/Weddington area. I loved all the green/countryside in the area. However, we never made it out to Indian Trail but know its still in the Union County area.....is it just as beautiful as the Waxhaw/Weddington areas? Indian Trail is a little more affordable.....

In a word, no. But it is closer in to Charlotte for commuting to uptown if that is important. It is more affordable however... |

Why is it not as nice of an area? Can you point out the differences?My DH is going to actually work more towards SE Charlotte. For his commute I think Waxhaw will be closer. |

Not to argue with you, but if your husband is working in southeast Charlotte no way is Waxhaw closer  But maybe what you are thinking of as SE Charlotte really isn't. Can you give me a road name so I can know exactly where he needs to commute to? Indian Trail is not a bad area, just not very scenic like out in Waxhaw and Weddington. There is nothing really quaint or upscale about it like the other two. |

Oh yeah, made a mistake....He will be working SW Charlotte near Steele Creek Road....around that area. As far as for resale purposes....I think the WaxhawWed area is the way to go. Does anyone know anything about Turnberry Homes...In the Winding Creek community? |

If he's going to be in Steele Creek have you considered Fort Mill? That would be a very easy commute for him. Plus, Fort Mill schools aren't quite as crowed (yet) as Union county. When you were visiting the Waxhaw and Weddington areas did you try riding from there to where he will be working either in the morning rush or afternoon rush? Those two lane roads get pretty clogged up. |

No, we didn't try it yet but with all of the homes out there and just those two lane roads we could definitely picture it. However, he usually likes to get into the office around 6:30 am so he hopes that with this timeframe he can get a head start before the rest of the commuters.....No, we haven't looked into the Fort Mill area yet....but hear it's a little more on the rural side and not quite as nice as Waxhaw/Wed....plus we don't want to be too far from my sister and her family if they are looking into buying in Indian Trail....but it doesnt hurt to look into Fort Mill when we come out in a few weeks....

Do yourself a favor - go see Baxter Village in Fort Mill on Hwy 160 off of I77.
Google it and see how beautiful these homes and the whole planned community is. If you can afford Weddington, you can afford Baxter |

We are building in Indian Trail. We looked at Waxhaw, Weddington, Wesley Chapel & Indian Trail. The main reason we chose Indian Trail was price and its proximity to 485. Even though my husband telecommutes and we don't NEED to be close to 485, I WANTED to be close to 485 in case I needed to go in to Charlotte for shopping, doctor appts, etc. I can make it from our new n'hood to 485 in 10 minutes. That is a HUGE bonus to me.
I think Weddington is overpriced for what you get (and lets face it, most of Union county is still very rural so its not like you are getting better amenities or services for the extra cost). Weddington does have highly rated schools, that and the name (and the reputation for being "rich") are the best things it has going for it. Kinda reminds me of an old Cary, which is where I used to live LOL.
Anyhoo, I think you are paying for a name only. I don't think there is much difference between most areas in Union County except the distance to 485 and the quality of the schools (and most Union County schools are quite good).
I do know that we drove through some n'hoods in Waxhaw & Wesley Chapel and they were quite remote, a good 20 minute drive to 485, that was just too far for me.
That's JMHO 
ETA that I disagree with the PP that Indian Trail is not as nice. I drove through the areas mentioned above and they all looked the same to me. If anything, Indian Trail was closer to places like Walmart, Harris Teeter, & Sonic, and the billions of gas stations on 74 LOL. It is still mostly rural farmland out there, and I don't see how one farm could be "nicer" than another unless it's a hog farm or something LOL.

thanks lovesmountains and shaylac.....I just love the scenery in the Waxhaw/Wed area but have to admit some of those communities are way out there .
