I currently live in the Stone Ridge apartments at Sandy Porter and Tryon and I LOVE them. The lawns are kept immaculate, they fix things when I send in requests, they have a nice kiddie pool that's seperate from the adult pool and hot tub; it's gated and the apartments come with alarms.
When I was originally looking for a place, I looked for places both safe AND bug-free (the last one is asking a lot). I'm a single woman in my mid 20's and I wanted to be in a good area and Stone Ridge is perfect. HOWEVER, I'm coming up on the end of my lease and they're going to jack the price up to the point where I can no longer afford living there.

Can anyone recommend any places that fit my criteria? I'd like to keep rent under $750, be in a safe area, and relatively cockroach free! I work near Nations Ford & 77 so I'd like to be within 10-15 minutes of my job. I'll do house, apartment, townhouse, pool house - whatever. All I need is a 1bed/1bath.

I've spent hours and hours and days researching online but I know a lot of places don't advertise and I'd have to drive around looking.

I'm going to keep searching but I look forward to any responses you can give me!

Granted this was in 2011 (two years ago now, so a lot has changed), but I paid $640 for a spacious 1 bedroom apt in Mallard Creek. Included a pool, clubhouse, nice balcony and it was a safe and well-kept area. It was Colonial Grand at Legacy Park. If you can get over the cheesy street names in that development (like Prestigious Lane), it's actually a nice place to live - I miss it!

The caveat, of course, is that the prices may have risen since then, but I imagine it's still one of the cheaper areas of town that are still nice. (There was also a greenway accessible from the complex and plenty of grocery stores and restaurants nearby). Although Mallard Creek seems like it'd be on the other side of town, it actually isn't a far drive - I used to work in Uptown and would get their either from the interstate or the back roads and it wasn't bad.

When we were in a time crunch we wasted a lot of time trying to find an apartment...

We used a broker and found a 2BR/2B with hardwoods, swimming pool and tennis courts for $750 in Churchill Downs in Cotswold. If we paid before the 1st it was $700.

The reason I suggest a broker is because it saved us a ton of time and they had access to inventory that wasn't available on the net.

Try Beacon Hill, Ashford Place, and South Oak Crossing.

Camden Habersham in Pineville has some 1 BR units in the $739 range

Camden Habersham

You could also look into Berkshire Place at Johnston Road and Park Road. It's a 1980s complex and from what I've heard is a little less expensive than the others in the area.
