Did anyone do the drive up to the mountains this week? How were the colors? Would it be too late to drive up next weekend for fall color viewing?

I think it might be. We went to Cherokee and stayed in Gatlinburg and the leaves in the higher elevations are pretty much gone. They are still nice around Gatlinburg but ~60% of the leaves have already dropped.

We just went to the moutains yesterday (Sunday, November 11th) and yes, all of the leaves are gone due to winds. Once you get top of the mountain, you can still be able to see colorfull fall foliage below the mountain. Pisagh National Forest is very colorful. Blue Ridge Parkway is, too. One thing I didn't expect was to be so fearful while driving on the moutain edges. You have to drive zig-zag on a narrow road without rails in order to reach the mountain top. We were at Grandfather Mountain and it was scary, but worth it.
