We're considering a move to Charlotte, but one of us may be working in Davidson (right off Exit 30). We'd much prefer to live in the city, and I'm wondering if using the 77x for a daily commute is feasible or not. The listed times on the 77x timetable make it seem like a quick trip, but I know that traffic could double or triple the actual commuting time.

Also, are the buses generally on time? Are they completely full; does one have the line up early to get a seat?

If you live in Charlotte and commute to Davidson, you will be going opposite of the traffic. It shouldn't be a terrible drive.

The times are fairly accurate and travel times are close to real time you can almost set your watch to it.
Considering Davidson is first stop you will be first on on the inbound bus.
Once the bus passes Huntersville the bus travels in HOV lane and the traffic is always light using it.
The commute times are close and the frequency of the next bus is within 10 to 15 minutes during peek hours.
Only time commute time will be delayed is due to accident or bad weather like snow.
Once you get hang of it, I recommend getting a weekly or monthly pass and it will save in the long run.

The buses are like luxury liners with tall plush seats, foot recliners, adjustable air vents and lights.

Im confuse when you say you will be living in the city? Did you mean Charlotte if so then you basically will have the bus to yourself for the outbound peek hours.

Here a list of schedule times CATS Route 77x North Mecklenburg Express - Weekdays

If your unable to see traffic reports before you head to bus this map will give idea what traffic is like at the moment. https://maps.google.com/maps?safe=of...ed=0CCsQ8gEwAA

Thanks for the helpful responses. Yes, by "in the city" I meant within Charlotte proper, south of the uptown area.

Great, the buses particularly the first hour or two runs will be running on time or ahead of time because the buses will be heading from the nearby garage.
The bay for 77x is under the shelter outside of transportation center along 4th Street in front of the mini mart of the center.
That is the first stop and Davidson is the last stop.
