Depending on the times, that area plus the highway is high traffic. It could easily be a 30 minute to the airport. The area is great though, very busy and all the shopping you need then some.

Lots and lots of shopping. There is a great consignment shop near the hospital that is awesome for baby stuff/gear. Burlington coat factory is there and tons of other options. Plus the mall where you can window shop while pushing your baby on hot/cold days. Um yeah I'm real familiar with that area.

Crime? It depends on where you are coming from. If you're moving from Boise, Idaho, you may poo yourself the first time you see someone who looks different from what you're use to seeing. If you're moving here from, let's say, Detroit, Michigan, this place is a cake walk with pixies and fairies sprinkling happy dust over your head wherever you go. Overall, Charlotte isn't a big, scary city, especially compared to other big U.S. cities. It's just NOT. Just be cautious and friendly, and being a little paranoid will help with your alertness.

You'll be fine.
