This is true, but I found that the asking prices were slightly higher in the Cabarrus Co. side and that the construction quality, while good, was not up to the levels of the Meck. Co. side. The former issue is probably because of the cheaper taxes & better schools. The latter is probably due to builders cutting corners & rushing to make a quick buck. These are still QUALITY homes, though.

The bottom line is that you can't really go wrong with either neighborhood. I love HC & wouldn't trade it for the world, but MC is an oustanding community as well.

Highland creek hands down, if you have extra cash to spare. But as others said, watch which houses fall into CCo as opposed to Mckco.

Personal opinion...Highland Creek on the Mecklenburg side. I think that Mallard Creek (brand new high school this year) is probably better than Northwest Cabarrus. Just an opinion though.

Good Luck!

Hello - I am contemplating on purchasing a to-be built home in Moss Creek and the developer is Landis. It would be appreciated if you can please share any information you may have regarding this developer. Thank you so much.

Here you go.....Cabarrus County has better schools. Mecklenburg's public schools system is rated as one of the countrys worst. Hoghland Creek is a nicer neighborhood - you bet. Moss Creek is safer. You decide?

Care to provide details regarding the relative lack of safety in Highland Creek? I live in a neighborhood just outside of HC and I haven't heard or seen anything that would indicate a high crime rate in HC.

Also, I don't think Meck. Co. schools qualify as some of the worst in the country. While I'm not claiming that they are great, I hardly think they are the worst in the country. Furthermore, its my understanding that kids from Meck Co. side of HC would go to the new HC Elementary school, the currently-being-built HC Middle School and they very new Mallard Creek HS, so saying that Meck Co. schools are horrible is a generalization. If nothing else, the facilities for HC kids are much better than for other kids in the Meck. Co. system.

He doesn't have any facts to back it up because both neighborhoods are equally safe. Also, as you mentioned, HC residents on the Meck Co. side have three relatively new schools.

After years of hearing how much better the Cabarrus side of HC. I purchased a home to be built. I could not sell my Meck side home so I stayed. During the process I came to appreciate both sides. Meck side has more walking trails, golf course views, more mature and better landscaping. HC Elem. is a fantastic school and has that unique neighborhood feel. My child is gifted so I believe she will automatically be accepted to Davidson IB, the 2nd highest rated middle school in the state. While the taxes are lower on the Cabarrus side, the difference is not what it use to be. I think both sideshave pluses. One positive for the Cabarrus side is that new HS. I think it will be fantastic.
HC also has its own security patrol.
I have very positive views of Moss Creek as well. 2 great communities

I seriously doubt that Northwest Cabarrus High (ancient...new High School not open yet) is better than the (brand new) Mallard Creek High in Mecklenburg County...and in case you didn't know...some parts of Highland Creek are in Cabarrus County.

I have friends in Skybrook in Meckelnburg County right across the street from Highland Creek and there are never any problems in that area of town.

Are you saying that a new building is the reason that school a would be better than school b?

I like both neighborhoods. I think it comes down to the home style, location and of course price. Good luck!
