DH and I may be relocating to Charlotte from Greenville SC. I try to get a jump on things so that I'm not blindsided when we move. We would rent in the short term but only until we find a house. I need help figuring out what area to live in!
-He would work in South Park (right near the mall).
-Would like his commute to be 30 min or less, if at all possible.
-I have a 9 yo that we homeschool and will have a 5 yo in kindergarden. Would want a 'good' school and would prefer the elementary school to be on the smaller size.
-We would spend about $200K on a house (MAYBE up to $250).
-Don't need a huge house, probably 2000-2800 sq ft.
-DO NOT want a lot of yard to take care off. Either small lot, patio type home or maintenance provided community.
-Also would like to know about larger contemporary churches in the area.

If you want to buy in Mecklenburg county (inside 485) and be reasonably close in to South Park then look in the Charlotte Realtor zones 4, 5, and 6. Hunt around in the Matthews area and along HWY 51. That price range is more feasible if you shrink your size expectations a bit to around 1800 square feet for a single family home.

Thanks! I was also looking south at Indian Land and Fort Mill. Thoughts on those?

People on this forum always speak well of Fort Mill schools. You can get a larger house for your money out there. The commute might be 30 mins on good days but I think realisically more like 45 mins. Most people are commuting in to Charlotte so you get to join them.
