Hey all,

I'm looking for a shop that can replace a catalytic converter and replace some section of pipe. Does anyone know a good shop in South Charlotte / Southpark area?

Any general repair shop will do that as well. You don't need (or are there even any) that just deal with exhaust. Search on this forum for good mechanics, we just had a thread on this recently.

I think a shop has to be licensed to handle catalytic converters. And if there is any custom bending of pipe necessary, the shop needs to be capable of that. I know two guys who own substantial shops and neither handles exhaust work.

Midas and Meineke can handle this. Whatever is on the corner of Tyvola and South Blvd is who one of my shop-owning buddies uses.

I had the catalytic converter replaced twice by a regular shop. I got lucky both times then. And a bit off topic, holy crap was it expensive!!!!! My mom is getting hers replaced next week incidentally, she has price sticker shock too.

I just had my O2 sensor replaced at JP Auto Repair. Not a catalytic converter, but I was very pleased with the work and the price. It is on 521, just south of Ballantyne in Indian Land. I will use them again.

One went bad on my car. The dealer wants over $1700. That's not the route I went.

High flow cats are a lot less expensive.

That's the route I went, but it's not just high flow cats. Anything aftermarket when it comes to catalytic converters (and many other parts) will often be much less expensive than the dealer.

There is an independently owned Meineke muffler shop on the corner of Tryon and Eastway that does good work. They are reasonable and honest.

Don't know if they specialize in that, by Almar auto on South Blvd is a great place - friendly and quick service without being pushy. I recommend them.
