People in Kings Mountain & Gastonia are excited about this. People who I've talked to are excited but realize that the General Assembly wants to kill it. They are angry about what the General Assembly has been doing & even angrier that they want to kill the casino.
The job estimates are low. Lots of retail & restaurants would go into Kings Mountain & Gastonia. Their downtowns would be revived by the time the casino opened.

Even a small casino like this one would be would have a major economic impact.
If they were looking at land out by Ingles, I'd say that it is a ploy. Because of where the land is, no, I don't think it's a ploy.

I think the 4,000 estimates was for the casino on its own. Counting the new retail that would spring up around it would push the number a lot higher I would think.
And as far as a ploy, I should have phrased my agreement better. I think the Catawbas' first choice would be to build on their York County land, and they're using this to push for that. But if that deal doesn't happen, I'm sure they'd jump at the chance to build it near King's Mountain. I think it's kind of a ploy in that they're using real mutual interest from King's Mountain to get York County to step up to the plate.

I know exactly where the land is off exit 5. I can give you directions. If you know where they would build in York County, I'd love a comparison. It would be hard to beat the location. A casino visible from an interstate is hard to beat.
The land in York County is on their reservation land, if I'm not mistaken. It's off exit 79 on 77, and about a 10-minute drive off the highway. I guess it depends on the traffic data for the two interstates, because people will drive off the highway a few minutes for a casino, especially since there will surely be billboards up from Columbia to Raleigh.

You all need to realize it doesn't matter where it's built. It's pretty clear you all aren't die hard gamblers. They could build it out in bum f!?& nowhere out past clover, and it would be booming. Sooner or later one of the 2 ass backwards states will allow it to happen. When it does it doesn't matter where it's built it will boom.
Well, they'll get the die-hard gamblers no matter what; the location will matter more to the people who are just driving down the highway or live in the vicinity and think "hey, let's stop at the casino for a while, might be fun."

Casinos aren't built for that type of person. Example u couldn't get a room at Cherokee if u tried. They are always booked. Why because they want to give the rooms away for free to known gamblers. They could care about people getting off the highway to put 20 dollars in the machine for fun and to have a look around

Stopping and staying are two different things. Casinos also have restaurants and shopping as well. Neither of those require you to book a room.

Not 100% true. (comparing Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun to this), casinos like this will involve 'day tripper' buses who take all the senior citizens for like $30 and they will pull in early, and leave in the afternoon. Granny and Grandpa will throw their $50 in the slot machines, have their 3pm early bird special dinner, and board on the bus....
If there was a casino built in the area, you could have that type of scenerio (really nice flowgood business)from cities like Charlotte/Greensboro/Raleigh/Charleston...
