Will be an empty nester in 2016 and want to get the heck out of FL. LOL
Family has property in Hendersonville, NC. We're all planning to move to NC. However, will just be turning 50 and not retired. Currently work for State Farm, years. Love Ash area but a lot of retirees and I hear jobs are scarce. Don't know anyone in Charlotte but always here positive comments! Is housing in decent areas near town higher? Looking for single family preferably, 1200' and under 1K a month. Is that possible?? In FL now and prices are through the roof!! Will have to adjust to rainy weekends I hear lately. ha

Thank you!

You should get it in CLT .. the apartment where I live has a lot of people in your age group and not retired.. the apartment community offers both townhomes as well as regular apartments.... Try Strawberry Hills/Camden Pinehurst apartment.. they are increasing the rent :-( but worth a try! Have a good move :-)

Thank you. Have a dog, so looking for a small house in a decent area. Not apartment. I have friends in Chatt, TN abundant housing $500-800 on homes, yes. But not sold on TN just yet. Still love NC!

Asheville was voted happiest place to live amongst many other awards. Its a far better place to live providing you can get a job there. I feel there is nothing to do in Charlotte but work. Its a Rat Race here.

I really appreciate the straight answer! Looks like big city, known for banking. Yes I saw article on Asheville and my brother, says it's true.
The employment sit is a concern, I'll start with a temp agency.

Good luck!

I'm from Hendersonville and now live in Charlotte. I still have many family members in Hendersonville and I can tell you, if you are looking for a job that is not the place to go; neither is Asheville. It's fine for the Vanderbilts but not for everyday people. Charlotte is not a good place to be looking for a job right now.

I have family close to Asheville and I would not think of moving there. My first choice would be Charlotte and it is not even close. If you want the Asheville feel but without all of the alternative folks, Greenville SC would be a better option, still not close to Charlotte but a little more sanity than Asheville. As for a job, Charlotte is still in the top tier for job growth in the country nd is expected to accelerate.
