Well, with all the other layoffs, its just not a good look for the area...It will probably push the unemployment rate up as well plus more fierce competition for jobs.

I know what you are "trying to say" but these numbers are tiny... I think you need to gather up some numbers to support your predictions for the UE rate.
I guess the 1,300 jobs from MetLife, 1,600 jobs from Convergys, 175 new jobs in Rock Hill, 200 jobs within the next three years from Pactera and the new partnership between Charlotte-Douglas and Titan and jobs related are irrelevant?

Reason: OT
The jobs in other industries probably will not be a good fit for mortgage people who are pretty much pigeonholed into one industry. Hopefully many of them were jolted into action in 2008 when the last big mortgage meltdown happened & have backup degrees/careers. If not, like one poster said, at least one of the bank will try to shift people into other departments that are needing help to avoid paying severance and to boost their corporate image.
I made the transition out of mortgage (and am happy that I did so) three years ago. I am also a paralegal. Two options...
I am hearing that these layoffs are not simply in Charlotte, but, all over the US.

Don't worry, Charlotte is 4th on the top 10 cities for most jobs per capita:
I work in the mortgage industriy, so this doesn't surprise me. We went from being overloaded to applications drying up practically over night, been like this for over a month. Don't be shocked to see a lot of the people being laid off kept at the bank in other positions, such as post closing. The bank would much rather shift them over to a new department they don't have any experience in, instead of paying them all severance pay.
great post... a report on the radio this morning said the exact thing.
This is another reason we long time locals get frustrated with all of the people moving here thinking they will get a job..
