Is there a certain nice park or anything that has shelters or picnic areas, etc? We would like to go have a picnic by the water, but do not know where to go. Thanks!

My experience is that picnics by the lake are largely a bust, unless you have private areas. Public picnic areas frequently attract undesirables.

Having stated that, there is a park on Lake Norman up in Cornelius that is about as good as you are going to do.

Good luck.

I agree with Jetton Park, they have numerous picnic tables by the water and they each are some what private. Particularly the trail across from the tennis courts.
Jetting is free during the week ..

My guess is you were looking for some place for today....but just in case:

I see by your zip code you are located in Rock Hill, SC. Why not Ebenezer Park in Rock Hill (located off of Lake Wylie)?

We actually just got back from there after having a picnic, and it was very nice. They have picnic tables, covered tables (which can be reserved) and more. It was very clean.

The link below tells more about it:

Ebenezer Park

Latta Plantation offers many areas where you can have a picnic next to Mountain Island Lake. You can pick up a park map at the entrance.

I was going to ask where you were located but the previous posted said Rock Hill which is perfect. cane creek park in waxhaw is a beautiful lake with shade and always a good breeze. It's one of our favorite picnic/fishing spots. It can get busy on a perfect day though.
