There is a perception that there is nothing to do and see in Charlotte. I totally disagree. A city does not have to have the Smithsonian to be a reputable city destination for vacationing families. But sometimes it may take a bit of reaearch to find what is available. I prefer to go to smaller museums that are more quaint. In city center Charlotte, there is the infamous Nascar Hall that we are discussing. There is the Museum of the New South, Discovery Place and IMax Theater, ImaginOn Children's Museum, Mint Museum of Craft and Design, Mint Museum of Art, Bechtler Museum of Art, Harvey Gantt African Cultural Center, Knight Theater, Belk Theater, Spirit Square. Outside downtown, the Charlotte Museum of History is very good as is historic Brattonsville near Rock Hill. If you have not been to these two, you should consider it. There is also Carowinds,Whitewater Center, Daniel Stowe Botanical gardens, Billy Graham Library, Nature Museum. There is also Latta Plantation. Latta Plantationand Charlotte History Museum have on display two of the oldest homes still standing in Mecklenburg County.

Its not that Charlotte hs nothing to see or do,I suppose every place does but the question is :what makes those attractions relevant to what a visitor would want to see.?
Just because they are there does not mean I would want to go. Thats probably the problem with the museum. There is not enough buzz for people who dont like NASCAR or who are not into it to make them at least interested.
My aunt and uncle - 80 years old - are soon coming to visit us for 2 weeks. What do your suggest / recommend for senior with the difficultiy of walking ? They have travelled a lot, visited Paris, London, Rome, ... and are expected to see some historic monuments and museums, but not interested on Nascar or craft beer!
A cruise on Lake Norman or 2 days in Ashville would take only 2 or 3 days, how to offer a nice program suitable to their condition for 2 weeks?
Thank you so much for your advice

The Kings Mountain battlefield & Cowpens are within range. The National Park Service have movies at each site. There are benches along the walk at Kings Mountain. There's not much to Cowpens, so they wouldn't need to walk much. Ask on the Triad board about the battlefield at Guilford Courthouse.

Thank you so much for the tip.
Will check it, hope that we will not have the rain and they will enjoy.
You're welcome. If you need restaurants, google for City of Kings Mountain & Gaffney, as well as Gastonia. I rarely eat out, but Pho 98 in Kings Mountain is good & reasonably priced. Mountain View is somewhat like a diner (Y'know, the kind of place that serves meatloaf.)
That would make a perfect day: place to see + place to eat.
Thanks a lot!
