Visit the Epicentre. It has a movie theater and a variety of restaurants.

If you want a treat, try Mert's soul food restaurant which is about two blocks from the Epicenter. Good Southern food.

In the mood for a show, try the Blumenthal or the Actor's Theatre of Charlotte.

Also check out Romare Bearden Park in Third Ward (Church & 3rd Street). Opened this past weekend and is already a great addition to our city.

PLEASE go to Mert's while you visit, it is the best food I have ever tasted -- it's my favorite restaurant, so I may be biased, but I've never met anyone who didn't love it. If you go, try the Soul Rolls & their BBQ. Alexander Michael's is also a cool restaurant/tavern in Fourth Ward, their Stroganoff or their London Broil sandwich is a must. Amelie's is a French Bakery near NoDa -- which has some pretty cool bars and stores, and for future reference NoDa hosts a gallery crawl every 1st & 3rd Friday of the month, which is a lot cooler than it sounds -- and Amelie's is open 24/7. It's kind of just a place where people hang out or play games; salted caramel brownie or their asparagus leek soup is a big hit. There's also a place called Red's right across from Amelie's which is a Hookah bar/hang out type of place. It's cool, kind of, if you're into that stuff. Cabo Fish Taco is also in NoDa and it's a great restaurant that is mostly known for, you probably guessed it, fish tacos -- Tavarua Wahoo tacos or their BBQ Mahi tacos are highly recommended.

EpiCentre, as said, is pretty cool. Their movie theatre is really nice and there's a ton of great restaurants, bars, and shops in the plaza to choose from. Discovery Place is technically for children but it can still be really cool and they have the IMAX theatre. There's also the Mint Museum of Art and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art which are both great, though I'd have to suggest the Mint. There's also the Charlotte History Walk which basically just consists of you walking around the heart of uptown, visiting historical sites. However, it's really interesting as these are often overlooked and it's a great way to see the city. You should also check out Charlotte NC Tours which gives segway, bicycle, walking, and haunted tours. I'd suggest the haunted tour! And if you go, ask for Jordan Huggins -- he's great.

Honestly, I could go on and on but my best advice would just be to get out there and walk around. Walk into some of the smaller bars and and dinkier-looking shops because those are the best ones.

Have fun!
