Hey Everyone! I'm a 27 year old guy with an IT degree who currently lives in the Daytona Beach area, and I need some insight about a decision I'll be making. Basically it comes down to this.... I can't decide to move to Naples, FL or Charlotte, NC. These are two cities that I love dearly. I have family in both cities. I've been to both Naples and Charlotte many many times and know both well. I love the idea of moving out of the state that I've called home my whole life, but also am nervous about leaving the state I've called home my whole life. The reason I've picked these two cities is because of family. I have to be around family. So of these two cities, which ones is better for a young guy who wants to use his college degree to the fullest and plans on starting a family in the next 5-7 years. Weather is not an issue for me in this decision. I'll let weather play a roll in where I live when I'm old and retired.

If your hobbies/interest involve mostly beach activities, etc...Naples. Charlotte's metro is much larger than Naples so the upside for career opportunities is probably stronger. I'm sure you're aware of the challenging job market, don't let the gazillion doomsday posters obscure the fact that Charlotte continues to grow and there are ample employment opportunities for certain skill sets like IT professionals. I'll never quite understand why some folk think moving from an area with 9% unemployment to an area with 7% unemployment translates to jobs are falling off the trees.
Family in both places will make the transition much easier so go with the cash/benefits/perks.
Go with Charlotte. It'll be something new. You'll get to experience living in an entire different, more diverse state.

My sister and hubby have lived in Naples for about 15 years now and I go there several times a year. It's a beautiful town, spotless clean with some great history. I like that side of FL better than the east coast side (my Pop lives in Boca Raton) because it's not as congested. At first my sister complained about not being able to meet good people, or should I say, people that live there year round. Like much of South Florida, many of them pack up and move north in the summer, and back they come in the winter. She's finally met a few year round people but it took forever. If you want 4 wonderful seasons, Charlotte is the place. In Naples, well, you know...She loves it there, but whenever she comes to Charlotte she often says she could be happy here. The 2 cities are vastly different in size as you know so the only real reason to choose one over the other imo are the family, and beach. Otherwise, there is plenty of action a 27yo could find here in Charlotte.
