I'm looking to practice playing tennis on one of those practice walls. The problem is that I don't know how to go about finding one, especially somewhat close to uptown (15 mins max). I found one at Veterans Park, but it's super small and made of wood, and doesn't work too well. The larger the wall the better!

Not sure if it's 15 minutes or less from from Uptown, but at Park Rd Park tennis courts (Park Rd and Archdale Rd), there are 12 lighted courts with 3 practice walls.

It gets very busy there on weekdays, try to get there before 5 or 5:30pm. On weekends, it's very busy mornings & mid-days, less busy during late afternoons/evenings.

First time you go there, take a look at a sign at front of courts on the fence, it's a list of tournaments held at Park Rd Park. During those tournaments, none of the courts are available-- good idea to write down those dates in order to avoid going there those days.

"The depressing thing about tennis is that no matter how good I get, I'll never be as good as a wall."

Look at Colonial Park (I think that's the name). Corner of Providence Road and Alberto Street. Got beat by that wall many a time over the years.
