Hello All! We are new to the area. We moved to Waxhaw in June and are very happy so far We have a 10 yr old son (5th Grade) who played chess in NJ. They had a club at his school and he competed in tournaments with the team. Unfortunately, our new school does not have a chess club and I have not heard of one when I have asked the local Moms I have met. I guess I need to look further/wider than just Waxhaw! Does anyone know of a chess club/group for kids that is a reasonable distance from Waxhaw? Many thanks!

Have you considered starting one at your child's school? I think my son would be interested in that in a year or two, but I don't know much about the game.

That's a good idea, except that I don't know how to play chess. The lessons and the tournaments are like another language! His last chess coach took care of everything. Also, as a 5th grader, he will be moving to the Middle School in a year, and I'd hate to start something and then abandon it. I'm really looking for an established club with a coach that is already connected to the local tournament scene.
