And that has always stuck in my mind . . . b/c 3 officers were standing there . . . and one chose to deploy a taser . . . and when that didn't work . . . why didn't cop # 2 or cop # 3 deploy their tasers?

Obviously, the cop who used the taser felt that the situation did not require use of a FIREARM.

If I were an attorney, that would be one of the questions I would want a jury to think about.

It usually works this way...one officer always deploys a lethal weapon and another one deploys a non lethal weapon....When the non lethal weapon doesnt work then the lethal one is deployed...it is called the use of force continuim which these officers followed to a tee. Experts will testfiy the force here used was reasonable. If the officers had a bean bag gun available they probably would have deployed that before the firearm. I guess it was not available at the time and the only other choice was lethal force. Dont forget this decison has to be made in 5 seconds or less when the situation is happening or one of the officers may be killed or badly injured.

nope... I'm sorry but there are too many instances when 3 cops subdue an unarmed man without the use of lethal force.

Firing a weapon wasn't the "only" other choice and this is why he is going to trial.

Or maybe he charged the officer knocked him down and shoots the other three cops...this has happened before.so why take the chance. THe only reason he is on trial because he is white and the suspect is black. But this his been tried numerous times before and ends up with the officer winning and getting back pay and benefits. I hope the police association votes no confidence in the idiot they have for a chief.

The news says the grand jury failed to bring any charges against officer Kerrick. So it's pretty much over.

No, it is not over. The family will sue the city for a boatload of money and win. This cop will lose his job. He may be charged with a lessor offense since the gj didn't believe there was a case for voluntary manslaughter.

Doesn't mean it is ok or justified or acceptable. Legal doesn't mean just.
