Mooresville is booming just like the Lake Norman area in General. There has been plenty of talk on this board about the schools. The consensus seems to be that the schools are good in Mooresville. The same could be said for Stateville from what I can tell.
If your commuting to Charlotte give yourself a little time if your heading out at rush hour. To say that Mooresville has already appreciated is a little far fetched. NC seems to have appreciated at a slower rate and therefore only certain areas seem to have froth. Everything else is about in line.
If you need any help please let me know and good Luck!

Here is my post from another Statesville question today. Also, might consider that Statesville is still growing, so home prices will be under control probably at least another couple of years, although our home price has gone up over the past 2 years, which was not expected when we moved here. With Mooresville overly-crowded and developed, a lot of it is moving North now.

We get a LOT of families from Mooresville bringing their children to school in Statesville, whether it be the public schools, the charter schools or the private schools.
There is a lot of new development going up in Statesville. There's an Aldi opening anytime, a brand new movie theater, which is much nicer than the theater in Mooresville, a new Chili's restaurant going in...just to name a few new developments.
There are plans in Statesville also in the future for a SUPER Target! Super Target (like the one in Mooresville) is a lot nicer than Wal-Mart and honestly, the food pricing is comparable, and the quality is well beyond that of Wal-Mart.
We are transplants from California, and have been here about 2 years. Yes, it's different. Yes, it's smaller and less developed, and that's JUST what many of us like about Statesville.
If I wanted to live within crowding, overdevelopment and overly commercialized areas, like in Mooresville & Charlotte, I'd have stayed in Southern California.
The historic downtown area in Statesville is amazing and the neighborli-ness of the town is very warm!

And some of us with acreage may be moving ourselves.................
Lowe's Corporate is in Mooresville off exit 33, the Warehouse - Olin. It takes me ~25 minutes from just north of Statesville to drive to downtown MSVL, where I work. I feel very sure that you could find something in your price range - that's a decent chunk of $$. Good luck in your search and welcome to the area!
