Is it possible to trade in a vehicle as part of a new vehicle purchase (at a dealership) when the title is lost? I know about applying for a duplicate which takes about 15 days to obtain, however it's a bit time sensitive so may not be able to wait that long. Can the dealer look up this information and then receive the physical title when it comes in?

I was also reading about the "Instant Title" service where you pay $75 and they give you a title. I don't know if I can use that as a replacement title.

I'm just curious as to what the options are...

Thanks!

There is a form that I just filled out when I sold my car. Couldn't find the title. I filled the front out with all the information and got it notarized, then the back had the basic change of ownership information that I also got notarized. Don't know what it is called, but it was very official looking, just like a real title, except with no information on it. The back was identical to what is on the back of a title. Seemed to work fine, as I haven't heard back from the buyer with any complaints.
By the way...it asks for a title number or something of the sort. At first, I thought.... if I knew that, I'd have the darn title! But it was written right on my registration card.

Thanks for the feedback - called the dealership and asked about the form, and of course "no problem" they have the duplicate form application right there. So it wouldn't be an issue.

Of course as luck would have it I subsequently found the title
