Momtothree hit the nail on the head in regards to trying to become as fluent in English as possible. In my limited experiences with people with a Russian accent, I had a hard time understanding them so I can imagine that will be an early strike against both of you in the hiring process. That won't be any better anywhere else in the US.

As far as beer jobs, Asheville is a good place because of all of the breweries even though the city is smaller. Perhaps look for a company looking to expand into Russian speaking countries? It might not be your first choice of jobs, but your language could be a great help.

I read some stories of adaptation on Russian Forums and they tell about CHarlotte a lot, found out statistic information, compare cities and choose charllote. There are a lot stories about other cities of course, but I like this city, may be it sounds strange, but i dont explain this fact.

I think you are taking the wrong path toward deciding what city you could use your best talents and making a new start.

You have a very good understanding of the English language and command of Russian. These are your strong points and you must use then to your advantage. I would think you would need to move to a large major city with international trade offices (or export/import) and utilize those talents.

I understand your adversion to Brighton Beach BUT NYC is a whole lot bigger than BB. Find a city where you can play your trump card. (strongest talent)

Natalliyas:

You asked for advice , so here's my two cents :

I am the grandson of (paternal) immigrants from Europe.

I live in the Charlotte area, but spent most of my life in NY.

I have worked with people from all over the world, including immigrants from Russia.

I don't care for New York - for many reasons - including the high cost of living, and cold winters.

However...

The economy is poor in America - irrespective of what the statistics say.

There are many Russian areas in Brooklyn. This is important, in that you might be able to come to America, yet have the benefit of help coming from the Russian community - be it in the form of work, housing, etc.

In other words, you might be able to conduct day-to-day affairs in your native language (Russian), as you become familiar with America. Likewise, there are Russian lawyers in Brooklyn that might be able to help with immigration, etc.

In Charlotte, you will have none of the above benefits. The main benefit with Charlotte, is that the cost of living in Charlotte is very reasonable. Charlotte itself is nice; it's clean, parks are great, etc.

In Charlotte, I have met people from different parts of the world; it's an area that is welcoming to all.

Your best bet would be to look at getting your commerical drivers license - to drive a truck. Pay will be above entry level; you can pick up english as you live here, and work is available.

I wish the best to you.

There is a fair sized Russian presence here. Several Russian churches. We have several neighbors who are Russian, attend Russian Churches; there seems to a good community here. Perhaps you could connect with some locals through a church, they seem to be pretty tightly knit community, helping each other out (from what I've seen of my neighbors). That could be a way to find a job, if someone local was hiring, and they could assist with English at the beginning.
