Wink Jobs In Charlotte

My husband and I have had a hard time finding jobs in Charlotte... My husband is the Food and Beverage Director/Clubhouse Manager at Montreux Golf and Country Club in Reno. We have tried sending his resume to a bunch of clubs and gotten minimal response. He has been sought after locally many times, but we are having a problem with proving his skills from afar. Does anyone have any ideas? We are desperate to raise our little boy in the charlotte area. We both have strong resumes, but the national websites aren't helping as much as we hoped! THanks for any and all input.

He works at Montreux? G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!

I hope you don't mind my popping in here, and a resident of Charlotte will surely provide more precise info - I just want to mention that I've been researching NC for a couple of years now, and with all of the reading I have done regarding jobs in NC, it is best to apply as a resident, even if you're temporarily renting. Time and time again, I have heard and read that companies will tell you to contact them after you are settled in.

DH and I have discussed renting a little place to get us started, then job hunting so when asked if we are residents we can truthfully say, "Oh yes, I live in -fill in name of town here-. ;^D

Hope this is helpful somehow & best of luck!

Great advice! We've encountered the same problem. I read somewhere that it's a good idea to get a PO Box in Charlotte if you're not a resident yet.
Good Luck!

Just curious, why is it important for you to raise him in Charlotte? Have you found some great schools? I'm "desperate" to find a great school for my children. NOT to say there aren't any! I guess I'm just a bit overwhelmed as far as schools go...

I also posted about the difficulty finding jobs. My husband has been in Human Resources for 25 years . He has applied to jobs he knows he is overqualified for and would gladly do if it meant we could move. We very much want to relocate but are too afraid to move without a job. Maybe the PO Box idea. Why are companies reluctant to hire from out of state? Do they not believe we are going to relocate? All you NY/NJ transplants HOWDID YOU DO IT?

Barbara, I believe one reason is because companies have tightened their belts and no long wish to pay moving costs for getting an employee here, especially when there is pool of people to choose from that are already here. Here's my best advice - at the risk of repeating myself I will say it again for anyone who didn't hear this before , you need a good head hunter or employment agency. Many companies here use those companies to "pre-screen" prospective hires for them. Get your resume professionally done and hook with with an agency. They will get you interviews if you have good qualifications. Best of luck to you all!

The PO box idea sounds like a good one. I am currently being considered for a position with River Hills CC (lake wylie). My husband has only gotten a few hits. We are very scared to move without employment. As far as schools in Charlotte.... we have done EXTENSIVE research and the schools in Meck county and the outlying areas are nationally ranked... some in the top 100 (newsweek). However, the Meck county are overcrowded which is why we have considered other areas. We like Reno, but there is an element which exists here that is not appropriate for little people and the schools are mostly substandard... Hence, Charlotte. We both grew up on Long Island and many of the schools there are great... but we can't afford to live there. If anyone has anything further to contribute... we are all EARS!!

thanks.

Have you considered anywhere else in NC besides Charlotte? Given your husband's work in the Golf/Country Club field, the Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Whispering Pines areas come to mind. They are in Moore County, about a 2 hour drive from both Charlotte and Raleigh. Yes, there are quite a few retirees in that area, but also many, many younger folks including young families. Beautiful area with quaint downtown and village, lots of good restaurants, along with tons of golf resorts. This area has grown alot over the past few years, but in a controlled way. Check it out if you are open to other parts of NC.

I'm in HR, too. Here's a suggestion as to what my hubby did to "appear local," if you will. He got a cheap cell phone (get one of those prepaid phones where you have no contracts)--phones can be gotten as cheap at $20), and get yourself a local 704 number. That way, callers will assume they are ringing up charlotte.

My hubby flew here for an interview if the job made sense. But ultimately, we moved (I still had my job from NYC) and he quit his.

But that might do the trick for you. I am in agreement that companies won't look at you really if you're not in town.
