I am close to accepting a job in Charlotte. My wife and I are into Hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, camping, etc. I know almost nothing about the area, while poking around I came across Belmont. It appears to be ideal. Also, if I am not mistaken it is on the way to the mountains for quick weekend getaways in the wild. We will be buying a home in the $300,000 range. What areas do you recommend? We are are currently in L.A. and commuting time to Charlotte is not a big concern. Thanks in advance.

Look at Belmont, Mt. Holly, Cramerton, & Kings Mountain. Also look at at the Southeast corner of Gastonia.

The Kings Mountain Gateway Trail will probably be of interest to you Kings Mountain Gateway Trails > Home as well as Crowders Mountain State Park. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/crmo/main.php

Belmont NC would be ideal for your outdoor needs as the Whitewater Center is around the corner.
Even though they are not serious mountains Crowder Mountain State parkis also nearby and Kings Mountain State Parkin Blacksburg.
Plus it a short 2-3 hour drive on Hwy 74 and your in Pisgah Forest.

Subdivisions within your price point in Belmont are Abbington Woods, Belle Meade, Belmont Reserve,, South Point Ridge , Stowe Manor , Timberlake
