A Wells Fargo spokesman said the San Francisco-based bank will lease space in a building it formerly occupied in the University City area of Charlotte to expand unspecified lines of business.
Josh Dunn said the space will be used for new hires, but he did not give specifics on how many employees will work there or in which business areas.

Wells Fargo property probly won't house big box stores with two-year leases that bug out when the economy takes a dip or Tshirt and sneaker boutiques. The University City area needs more executive business parks to displace the small strip malls that attract so much crime. IBM Drive isn't even safe anymore. I read about two robberies there during the past couple of weeks alone.

Great move that Wells Fargo is returning. Be sure that as soon as one executive gets held up, the city council will fund CMPD to step up considerble activity in the area.

Bring it on.

The little bit that I can see, it appears that Wells is moving people back into the building that they moved people out of last year...

I wish that I could see the rest of it...

I wonder who they are moving in there????

Wells Fargo said they were laying off 284 people in August, 150 in September, and now they're moving back into somewhere they once occupied?

Yep. Word is that they've already gutted the building to do the renovations....

It appears that they will be moving people out of the downtown buildings up to U.City. I would assume it is because the rent will be much cheaper.

That building can probably hold 400-500 people, so, not a huge chunk of the downtown workforce. I assume that they are making it a "green" building in compliance with their other buildings.....

It will be interesting to see if they rent any other U.City office space (or office space elsewhere in Charlotte other than downtown) to move other workers....
