I agree it probably has to do with money because four children would bring home minimum $1700 monthly. Tax Free. Their medical is completely covered under a special Medicaid program for Foster kids and they get food stamps and SSI/Social Security Survivor's benefits if the child qualifies on top of the monthly stipend. (I knew a few foster parents, honest ones that put away that monthly stipend into an account for the children to receive upon graduation)
I think it makes the idea of such abuse even worse, as they are being paid and not forced into taking the kids.
Current NC rates per child:
$475.00 for children 0-5
$581.00 for children 6-12
$634.00 for children 13-18
but 4 of her children are adopted. She wouldn't receive stipends for them.
Uggh... unless the adopted children are special needs, then they do get stipends, and the abuse is probably worse. I don't know if I even want to know.

Last article I read said 2 of them were adopted. And if adopted from a foster care situation, they do get a stipend. And more so if they are special education.
My friend gets one for her two and they are both adopted from a foster situation. She gets it from two sources, the SSA and CPS from her state. It's a special type of adoption I guess? Not sure about this situation though, just suggested that IF they still do get a stipend, those are the amounts.

So the situation looks like a money-making venture, to me. Just my opinion, of course, but it really makes me wonder if she has made sure her relatives and friends have also cashed in on the adoption side of things (and foster care program). That is where I think the investigation needs to start . . . who she has had influence over as far as allowing adoptions and for approval of foster homes -- and if any of those folks are in any way personally connected to her. This is what happens when bureaucrats get into a position and you can't get rid of them. We will start hearing the personal stories of folks who have complained about the department and the Supervisor, in particular . . . in time.
PS> I do want to clarify - I am not saying that everyone who is a foster parent is a crook!!!! I have considered fostering, myself and have done some temporary foster care in years past (emergency placement). We desperately need more dedicated folks out there participating in the foster care system, so I AM NOT MALIGNING FOSTER PARENTS . . . just saying that this gal's placements and approvals need to be reviewed. WIthout that oversight, I don't see how anyone can trust Union County's CPS department any time soon.
The last article said 4 adopted children and one foster child. Wow. And they said the inside of the home was deplorable. So it's very clear they never ever had a home visit to check on the foster child.
These people went from Gaston to Union. I'd like to know why they left Gaston.
how dreadful. Handcuffed on a regular basis because he kept of running away. Of course he tried to run away, I would run away too. And to think that they took this kid away from his family to put him in this. Surely it was better.

The kid's aunt has been complaining for 4 years. I wonder if a teacher in Gaston threatened to turn them in over her head. There's something beyond the obvious here.
There are Federal as well as State subsidies for adopted children, if those children qualify. The criteria are actually quite broad. A special needs child can be defined as a child having learning disabilities, for example.
In addition, these subsidies are not based on the income of the adopting family. Also, a child may be receiving other benefits through the Social Security system.
